(A version of Laura’s Doggie Donuts)

My sister-in-law, Laura, makes these cute little doggie donut treats for her 3 furry family members: Bella, Chimay and Kobe.  I don’t have the electric donut maker that she does, so I tried them in my waffle maker.  I also added some brewer’s yeast which I have seen in other dog biscuit recipes.

Thanks for spending some time in the cloud with me!! I hope your furry friends love the waffles! ( : Tina

Servings: 24 waffles

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour* *
  • 1/2 cup oat flour
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1/4 cup brewer's yeast (found w/ protein powders in grocery)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2/3 cup beef broth
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons old fashioned oats

Add a combination of any of the following items you choose (I used cheese and bacon)

  • 2 tablespoons bacon bits
  • 2 tablespoons shredded cheese
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 4 tablespoons peanut butter powder
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened carob chips
  • 2 tablespoons slivered almonds
  • 3 tablespoons carob powder
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin spice

Instructions

  • Measure flours* into medium bowl, stir in brewer's yeast and baking powder.
  • Whisk together beef broth, egg. Stir into dry ingredients until well combined.
  • Add rolled oats and any of the extra items of your choosing.
  • Scoop and shape into balls (15 ml. scoop or 1 tablespoon).
  • Bake in electric waffle maker for 12 minutes.  (I used coconut oil non-stick spray on my waffle maker.)  They should be dense and quite dry.
  • Laura uses an electric mini-donut maker or electric grill for 15-20 minutes. (or flatten and bake in 350 oven.)
  • Makes about 2-dozen.  Store in refrigerator.

Notes

*Use 2 cups total flour - you can use whatever flour or flour combination that works best for your doggie's diet.

Hey! This is awsome! How long the biscuits stay good in the refrigerator?

      Hi Stephanie!

It depends how much moisture is left in them. If they’re really dry they keep longer (even at room temperature) If they’re chewy, I would say several days in refrigerator. I would say keep them in the freezer and move a couple to the fridge every couple days. Hope your doggie enjoys!

I opened your Pin, because the packaging and photo drew me in, while I was looking for dog treat recipes.

Since I see nowhere on your post that in any way leads me to believe you are a germaphobe, I want to share with you, that I as an American raised in the 20th century, know how to wash my hands. I can only presume your not-subtle virus pop-up refers to the media induced mass hysteria regarding Corona of 2019. Virus are not pandemic(s). Pandemics do not go on and on ad nauseam. Maybe take a look at what all of that attention draws away from.

In closing, I think you do a fine job on your site, but I am not interested in your personal war on my hygiene. It has nothing to do with my interest in dog treat recipes. I won’t be visiting again.

That wasn’t anything I placed on my site – was probably a pop-up advertisement from my ad network.

Hi I was wondering if the yeast was really needed. You’ve already got baking powder so it seems like a lot of CO2 reagents in it.

Hi Elizabeth – this was brewers yeast – more of a nutritional supplement – not like traditional baking yeast for rising bread – you can totally leave it out too!
