How to Make a Blended Blizzard Style Ice Cream Treat with Your Stand Mixer – TIPS:
- Use a stand mixer – I used my KitchenAid Artisan 5qt Stand Mixer
- A Stand Mixer can smooth and soften the ice cream and incorporate the mix-ins perfectly
- Don’t use a blender – Don’t add milk – it’s not a milkshake (unless you want to make a milkshake! lol)
- Use the flat beater (paddle) It’s designed for tough mixing
- Start on low speed – increase a few speeds as needed
- Freeze your mixer bowl for about 10 minutes to help the mixture not melt
- Alternatively if you don’t have room in your freezer or want to make several batches. Swirl the mixer bowl with icy water. Dump out and dry bowl.
- Make sure your toppings are chopped or crunched up or soft.
- Don’t over mix or mix for too long or you’ll have ice cream soup

How to Make a Blended Blizzard Style Ice Cream Treat with Your Stand Mixer
Equipment
- 1 stand mixer I used a KitchenAid 5qt. Artisan Stand Mixer
Ingredients
Each batch makes about 2 Blizzard Frozen Ice Cream Treats:
- 6 scoops ice cream about 1 pint
Mix-ins Ideas: cookies, candies, brownies, frosting, hot fudge, granola, cake…
- 1/2 cup crushed up mix-ins
Instructions
- Freeze your mixer bowl for about 10 minutes. (If you don't have room in your freezer or want to make multiple Blizzard treats in a row. You can add ice water to your mixer bowl and swirl around for a bit to get the bowl really cold. Dump out the ice water and dry the bowl.)
- Choose your mix-ins. Make sure if they're crushed up.
- Add 6 scoops of your ice cream to the cold mixer bowl. Use the flat beater (paddle) and low speed to soften the ice cream and make it smooth.
- Add your mix-ins and mix until combined – using low or low/medium speed.
- Be careful not to mix for long or it will get too soft and melty.
- Enjoy right away!! You can pop them in the freezer but they will get hard if in there for long.
